Wax Lubricant

I think the major downside is that you have to apply it more often as it wears off fast.

Once the liquid carrier has evaporated, there is no liquid to attract dirt.
That's the good news.
Once the liquid carrier has evaporated, there is no liquid to flow where lubrication is needed.
That's the bad news.
I suggest you use oil and wipe off everything you can on the outside of the chain. Try to make sure that it just flows into the inside of the rollers where the lubication is needed... and a little where the inner and outer links interface. If you can see the lubricant, you don't need it, other than as a rust inhibitor.
Wipe you chain down before and after each ride... and if you are taking a long ride... wipe off the crud/grit/seepage during the middle of you day.
