  1. I am new to the whole power idea and was looking for some help.

I recently did an indoor time trial and was provided with a bunch of numbers I was trying to make sense of. I did an average of 242 watts, which it seemed the fastest guys were up near 300 at least. What is considered good for a Cat IV rider?

Next, I am trying to figure my watts/kg, but the weight they used to figure it included my bike. Should I minus the weight of my bike to get an accurate number for watts/kg? Again what is considered good for a Cat IV rider? The top pros I have read are close to 7 watts/kg I think I read somewhere.

    Thanks in advance

  2. Probably the best way to figure out your watts/kg is too do a 20min all out TT effort on the trainer.... Then take your body weight in kg's and divide the average watts by your weight.

Then go to this link: www.peakscoachinggroup.com/power/power_profiling.html
Near the bottom of the page will be a link to the power profiling spreadsheet.... Compare your results to this and you will see where you stack up....

    Hope this helps.... Omer

7 watts/kg (500 watts) sounds right for Lance, but few else. Just read about Lance's possible attempt on the hour record (currently held by Chris Boardman, UK). The prediction was that Lance could break Boardman's record by generating 500 watts for an hour, vs an estimate of 442 which Boardman used for his record run.

More power is always better, but why try to compare yourself to Lance or any other top pro...those guys are in a league of their own.
