washing waterproofs

machine will clean a lot of it away.

I usually just use pure soap, but you can get specific
cleaning products, such as Tech Wash from Nikwax:

Nikwax stuff is usually reliable.

Note that waterproofs normally have a water repellent
coating on the outside to slow down 'wetting out' - it's
what causes the beading up of water on the surface.

. This coating loses it's effectiveness over time, it can be
revived by a warm tumble or a warm iron. Eventually you
need to retreat the items. You can get spray on and wash
in products for this such as:

Haven't washed my Aquanot for 3 months now - its
definitely mud coloured

All the outdoor pursuits shops sell this type of product. I
use a detergent free fabric wash with the Tog24 label on it.
