  1. Does anyone have a formula/recipie for a good wash solution/tonic for after races. I need to have something that i can put with a towel in a ziploc bag to freshen up after rides and races so i don't feel like a dirty sock on the drive home. I have bought stuff from bike mags but it was pretty expensive and i'd really like to find a way to make my own, i figure rubbing alcohol and some kind of deodorant soap, maybe in a 10:1 ratio might work. Baby wipes are alright but looking for something a little better.

They have adult versions of baby wipes that are much better at cleaning salt and sweat and they smell a little more like deoderant than baby powder. I can't think of any names right now but they come in a nice tub.

Buddy of mine fills an empty milk jug with clean water and gives himself a "shower" after he rides. Then he towels himself off, puts on a fresh T-shirt and shorts, and he's good to go.

  4. Just before driving to the race from your house or hotel room, fill up a small cooler with a little soap and the hottest water you can get. By the time you need to use it, the water is usually still quite warm (even hours later) and then you have an instant sponge bath.

I strip down to everything but my pulled-up cycling shorts and get all the grime off with a rag. The drive home is much more pleasant for me and my wife.

I use the Coleman 6-pack cooler that came with my big cooler. I can also use the water before the race to clean my hands of any warm-up creams or oils I put on my legs.
