The paper based its figures on the following estimates:
$1.9 million annual salary and bonuses $3.8 to $7.6 million a year in endorsements $38,000 to $95,000 per personal appearance $38,000 to $48,000 per race in subsequent seasons $1-2 million for the rights to a ghosted autobiography

There's your answer, if you mean was it worth it to dope. If his victory was thanks to doping, then yeah, it definitely was worth it to dope.

No so much worth it getting caught, though.
It really does illustrate the temptation a top pro rider is faced with. I wonder if he had an SCA type of bonus plan for the 2006 season.
The real question is: what was a fair estimate, and expectation, that he might not be caught (in the hypothetical case that he was certainly doped, of course)?
