I wonder what the cyclists thought of this particular driver?
I was driving back to Coona from Coffs Harbour yesterday. First saw
one cyclist with front and rear panniers a few km further from a very
steep and long uphill near Dorrigo. Gave him plenty of room. Then a
few more 500m up. Then a bunch more.
I thought I might stop at the next town and chat with them if I saw
any more. Mum pointed out that there were a few in the little shop,
but I was already past them, so didn't chat. Must have been about 15
in total. I wonder if they had come up that mountain side?
It would have been about as challenging as Lavers hill - about 750m
over 14km, very few parts that were not uphill. Very windey. Was quite
a nice drive really.
On the way to Coffs a few days before (boxing day), the same region
was insanely foggy. There were times when the "20km/h around this
bend" signs were barely visible 20m in front of us. There were plenty
of fools passing us at 130km/h before the fog, and there were now
plenty of fools without headlights on. Then all of a sudden, all the
oncoming cars started flashing their lights at us. Up the road was a 4
car pile up, and a bunch of frantically waving people, and someone on
the road in a blanket. And sure enough, one of those 4WD's that past
us at 130km/h a while back was involved. I wonder if they were late to
their destination? Pity about the whole "innocent victims" thing
though - I hate it when fools take out other people.
