Wanted: Pannier hooks

that I bought a couple of years ago in a Decathlon in Normandy. Two days
before Christmas a car veered left into me and tore the bottom
completely out of the right side one.

The panniers attach with Velcro straps rather than hooks, so the fixing
is quite crude but very secure at the top. The right pannier can be used
on its own with a flap that straps across the top of the rack, or both
panniers can be Velcroed together. They're quite square so need to be
fixed well back to avoid catching your heel.

They're quite tatty and grubby, and the right one is now simply a tube,
having no bottom. You might be able to make something of them or maybe
not but you're welcome to them for the cost of the postage. Mail me at

I bought a new set of hooks to replace some broken Carradice ones recently.
I think it was about six pounds for the set (for both panniers, I think)
so not a great deal of begging compared with new panniers.
At the moment my panniers still have shockcord for antisway, but I might
try pop-riveting on some trimed curtain rail to fake what the newer
panniers come with one day. The set includes the lower hook fitting that
clamps onto a rail to hook behind the rack leg, as well as the top hooks
I was replacing. The new top hooks, unlike the old ones, have a locking
bit (though perhaps not as nice as Klickfix).

I've seen the Carradice set, they'd do the job quite well of course. My
first thought is to re-use, then recycle then buy new.
