If you plot your route with care you can probably get to the Wyre Forest
(West of Bewdley) inside an hour (traffic conditions being only
marginally subnormal), or even make it as far as Titterstone Clee Hill
(in deepest Shropshire). Both those come with free parking, and adequate
scope to get lost (but if the weather is cr&p, stay in the forest coz
the hill gets damn drafty). Obviously the view from the forest is
inferior .. trees, trees, and more trees .. whereas from Titterstone
(summit) you can see from Wales to the Malvern Hills (which are another
possibility if you hit the M5 and the traffic runs freely).
