I'm building up to a mini-exped of my own. Apparently there's going to be a meteor shower (Leonids) on 17th November, which is a Wednesday, so I was wondering about taking the whole week off and heading for the Brecons.
I've made no plans at all, yet, so don't question me on the detail!
But, yes, there will be cake .... unless I'm backpacking for the week. Too heavy!
There was a time when my reasons for walking were a mixture of wot u wrote above. Now I walk to go to the Coop and get some bacon/eggs/milk/sugar. I look forward to Peewiglet's next LDP so I can reminisce some more :-)

I did see it, ta. And, you're right, it's not too far away. Manchester could NEVER be too far away!
It's on FA Cup 2nd round day, though, so I may have to be somewhere else. However, on yesterday's performance, being beaten 4-5 at home, we'll probably get knocked out in the 1st round on 17th Nov!

A number of people have mentioned the physical aspect of it, the challenge and the exercise. Personally I find that to be a pain in the [censored] (but with beneficial side effects). If I could climb a mountain with no physical effort at all I probably would.
Probably just as well I can't - I need the exercise!

The Moelwyns are very good in winter.
This is not really planned as an official expedition. Me, Chris Street and a few friends camped in the Moelwyns to watch the Leonids a few years back, and Chris recently suggested a repeat. I don't mind if anyone else comes along but it's midweek so hardly convenient as an expedition in the usual sense, and it will be wild not a proper campsite (although we've had wild expeditions before...)

We can always combine our knowledge. Maps, campsites, GPSwaypoints, SYHA, experience in the field etc. I'm sure there are some members in this newsgroup who know much more about Scotland than I do and would like to be of help. And I love to search the internet.
