I watched this today from start to finish whilst demolishing a couple of pints of iced cold milk, aaaaahh. This is the first time I have ever watched such an event for the durtaion of the coverage.
I can't rememebr how many miles they covered today, but the average speeds for the top runners were said to be around 25mph. Considering how long they were riding for, the climbs that they encountered etc, I was actually gob smacked to see pretty much all the riders putting in a good performance in terms of lossing as little speed as possible throughout even on some of the climbs.
I can only cycle at a constant 21mph on a flat surface for about 4 miles before I start to slow.
I can only imagine how hard such competitors must train to be at the levels that they are at. But, I was just wandering what their training is likely to consist of in general and how often they would train for?
