Those rims are slightly deeper than box section (that are about 20mm). They look to be about 30mm plus the tire height. The tires look normal to me. If you are used to looking at box section rims with tires that have contrasting sidewalls then they can loo a bit thicker. I am used to looking at those rims and if you look, you will see many riders using rims even quite a bit bigger (ZIPP, Campag Bora, Mavic Carbone, etc.) are all well over 30mm (closer to 50mm). The most popular wheel (maybe not any more) is the Mavic Ksyrium at 25 mm.

The little bit of dark where the spokes start, and the rest being blue make for quite an illusion, at least from here. It looks like the blue is all tire!
In photo 1, Voeckler's wheels look like mtb stuff, fat tire-like. Must be an illusion...anyone know what makes 'em look big and blue?
