I have a budget of not much really (i:e $500), and I'm new to cycling. I'm after a flat bar road bike like the Giant CRX 4, although they are out of stock and apparently the running gear is from a mountain bike(???). What's the disadvantage?
I looked at the Vivente Novara Sport but can't find any write ups. Are they any good?
The GT Nomad Sport looked ok too, but again, I have no idea what it's really like.
The Vivente Novara Sport is pretty good value for money for an entry level bike. I own one, and the only criticism I have is that the ride is a little harsh. The worst feature of this bike is probably the crankset, which is a low end Shimano model (all the other Vivente models have Truvativ cranksets). If you got this bike and decided to upgrade something, the crankset would be the first thing I'd change.
It does have mountain bike running gear, but at this level, there isn't really any difference.
I take it you are just starting cycling or getting back into it after many years? In which case this bike will fit the bill nicely .... however if you get really serious about your riding, you will outgrow this bike so don't consider it a lifelong investment.
