  1. I recently started taking a vitamin B-Complex(50)(split in half, taken
half in morning and half in evening) for chronic pain, especially lower
back and sciatica pain. I was amazed at how much it seemed to help the
pain...more than any of the over-the-counter pain meds have helped. It
also gave me some much needed energy and mental clarity that I have
been lacking due to my back and neck pain. The only problem is that I
can feel a lot of tightness now in my jaw and many of my muscles feel
like they are tightening up. I have suffered TMJ for a while. I go
frequently to a chiropractor. When he adjusts my neck it helps my bite
and the TMJ. But now it definitely seems that the B-complex is
exacerbating the TMJ...not to mention tightening up other muscles(which
won't help my back and neck pain). I would hate to stop taking the
b-complex and lose the benefit it has given me with the nerve pain, but
I don't think I can continue if it is going to tighten up my jaw so
much. My question is, could this be a certain b vitamin in the
complex...Could I get the energy and pain relief by taking one or two
of the b vitamins separately. I know you are supposed to take b's with
other b's for balance. But I don't think 25-50mg would throw off the
balance too much. Any suggestions/help is much appreciated. P.s. I
don't think it's from getting too much energy from the B's. I don't
feel too much of a wired feeling...and have no problem sleeping at
night...it feels mostly like the muscles(especially in the jaw) are
    tightening up.

  2. Before I started taking a b complex, I went thru the exercise of
calculating the maximum daily recommmended amounts for most b vitamins.
I found that the mix that best came near my calculations was Jamieson
Stressease brand. I would think that any stress formula would be
    similar.

I take two a day in the morning with breakfast. That comes close to the
daily recommended maximums. Of course, these are water soluble and the
even taking way more than the maximums should not cause any problems,
they will just spill out in the urine. But I've noticed that they can
cause jitteriness and and in hindsight I see how they could and
probably have caused me some clenching or tightness of the jaw.

I might have a solution for your problem. I've found very recently that
large doses of Vitamin C is great for easing tension and anxiety and
helps with jaw tightness and general jitteriness.

For a long while I was taking a couple of 1000 mg a day with no
noticable effect on mood, not that I was expecting any or looking for
any. Then I thought I'd try a four day course of dosages around 18 to
20,000 mg per day for its anti-biotic effects. I was absolutely stunned
to experience a large, and I mean really significant, positive change
in my moods. I started with a four day course of dosages around 18 to
20,000 mg per day. I now take it in powder form anywhere from 5,000 mg
to 15,000 mg or more per day. It has a very relaxing effect on me and
it may resolve your jaw tightness situation.

I use calcium ascorbate which is easier on the stomach than ascorbic
acid. It is also cheaper in the long run and has a longer shelf life.
There is also potassium ascorbate and sodium ascorbate available. One
teaspoon of the calcium ascorbate equals 4000 mg. Disolve it in juice
or any liquid and shoot her back. If your stomach reacts and you
experience diarhea, you'll know that you've exceeded your bowel
tolerance limit. Just cut back the size of the dose a bit. And it is
water soluble, no toxicity issues whatsoever.
