  1. i read somewhere recently of an application that some mobile phones/
gps units could use that give you a virtual panorama,on the screen
with all the hill names as you look at the 'live' view.
does anyone know what im on about ?

The program is called View Ranger and it also turns your phone into a GPS
unit if you add a Bluetooth GPS receiver. www.viewranger.com

It's a bargain at £25 (for all the National Parks, England and Wales, don't
know if Scotland was on it?) and the developers are keen to add features, so
if you think something is missing, email them and they may even add it! They
did this for one of my suggestions, but i'm yet to install the update as i'm
not sure where my data cable is. It's also handy just to have the maps on
    your phone to browse.

No, i don't work for them!
