Virginia Beach rides?

I'm planning on riding in Seashore State park next month, in Va Beach, and wondering if anyone has ridden the Seashore Trail off 64th street? How the surface, still packed sand and clay? How are the bugs; would you recommend spraying down before the ride, or have any other tips. It's just a six mile in and out bike trail. -B
