I thought the second biggest story was freaking Teajay!!!!! Bridging when Froome and Wiggins couldn't and then taking those monster pulls, dropping in 4 back and then right back to the front for another 2 min pull. Over and over again. I think the guys in that big break away were saying F U. That was insane have not seen that since LA was riding off the front of the team time trial in 2000.

Seriously! His rotation in the locomotives up front in the break was amazing to watch. Similar to Szmyd IMO (even though Sylvester didn't show much this season so far). I noticed he had no trouble dropping back in line only three or four riders off the front. No one wanted to pull THAT hard!
As to Froome and Wiggins not being able to bridge...my thoughts are they were on the front all day and stuck babysitting Cav. If the tactics had been changed mid-race I think they could have rested a bit, bridged and perhaps contended in a last lap longish romp home ala Cancellara. Coulda, shoulda woulda?

The MORON enters a tight, more than 90 degree corner, on the front of the group, looking BACKWARDS.. takes down two guys... he deserves everything he got.. no podium in the road race and I hope he doesn't podium in the TT either for that bonehead move... saw him do a similar idiotic move on the front of the group in Paris-Roubaix as well... think it was the year before his first win.. almost took out the entire break group there too..
CAMPYBOB... Cancellar crashed himself (and two others I think) on the front of break.. not the chase group.. he actually HELPED the Brits by slowing the break temporarily...
I think the smaller 5 man teams and the fact that the Brits were too favored and therefore marked had more to do with the Brits not pulling it off than race radios... they still got time checks and they knew what they had to do.. they just couldn't do it..

It almost looked like he started the turn, then the road surface (whatever it was) made him think twice. He leaned the bike, then righted it again, and then started the lean again before going onto the barrier. It made me think of a manuever learned in advanced motorcycle safety when coming across gravel, oil, or ice when already leaned over... except there were none of those things.

He dove into the turn, leaned it over...then straighted the bike up! If he would have kept it leaned over he might have had a prayer of exiting the turn with the rubber side down.
All I could find was this crappy video of the crash. I can't see him looking backwards...or even tell when he straightens up and locks it down...from this poor resolution vid.

Whatever the flat obstacle that he is on at :05 in the grainy vid is what he righted to avoid during his initial lean. I'm thinking a pedestrian path with polished stones. But when you have a robust set of stones, it's amazing what a good set of tires will do if ya just STAY OFF THE BRAKES.

I basically disagree with myself on Vino (cons - convicted doper, kind of a jerk; pros - races the way everyone says they want guys to race), but I'm not sure why it's "shameful" to buy a victory, since it's pretty much a common occurrence in cycling, and the problem IMO should be less with the person trying to buy the win than with the guy willing to sell it.

you don't see him turning around in that video... it's kind of a two part turn.. a long sweeping curve that get's tighter and tighter, followed by a sharp corner... it's simple though.. he entered the corner too hot... at one point he's leanning so much that he was going to lay the bike on the ground.. he turns out, bike comes out of the lean, but now he's pointed at the barriers... no amount of grip was going to get him through that corner at that speed.. it was a bone head move committed by an over confident rider not paying attention to what the hell he was doing... don't feel sorry for him at all... i watched it live in HD on a 60 inch TV... was very obvious that it was 100% his fault..
first thing I though when Vino won was... would loved to see the look on Pat McQuaid's face as he saw Vino was actually going to win... he must have [censored] a chicken! lol...
Oh yeah. I think we all agree with that. Even with the limited panic braking distance he had, his fall into the barrier wasn't all that hard.The bounce down to the curb looked more painful to me.
Sadly, I was glued in front of a tiny 27" HD TV...sucked!
What a performance for him,remember last year in TDF after the injury everyone saw him out from riding ,but the recovered well and now he become the olympic champion. Amazing 14-year career and lets forget his doping scandal cause i`m sure every top cyclist doped at least once in his career . Chapeau!

I don't know about the Moron comment but that was absolutely nuts!!!. What was he looking back for, what difference did it make knowing who was behind heading into that turn. I saw that and said, yep you deserved that!

that's a good thought for sure... but usually when I take risk I usually try to arrange it such that there is the potential of a good payoff at the other end... I guess entering a corner, looking backwards at the front of the winning break of the Olympic road race was worth a shot.. he would have never known how that felt unless he had thrown caution to the wind.. and just went for it! LOL...

I've often wondered how it would feel to go through the last corner of our weekly, local crit on the front of the group with my eyes closed... with this new found confidence, I think next week I'm just going to go for it.. then there's the thing about.. what does it feel like to get an airbag to the face.. what really happens when you die.. LOL...
