Your choice might depend on WHICH weekend you are coming as well. Peak foliage colors can be found
in the Northern part of the state in late September through early October, while the best colors in
the South are usually around the 10-15th of October. Of course, this shifts a bit every year based
on fall temeratures, rainfall and wind...

If you are coming to the Southern part of the state, I can suggest a few routes. Just let me know
how many miles you'd like to ride, and how much you enjoy climbing (some of the roads in the Green
Mountains can get mighty steep).

There are no end to 50-60 mile loops you can put together in the Southern part of the state (I don't
get to the Northern part, so can't suggest anything up there).

In general, anything on the routes 30, 11, 35, 121 or 100 will bring you through some nice scenery.
Avoid Rte 9, it is very high-traffic and has some major construction projects this year. Rte 5 on
the Eastern border is OK, but tends to have a lot of traffic and the shoulders aren't the best on
some stretches.

If you plan rides around these routes, any paved road that ties them together will be well worth
your time. Just be sure to check the routes on a topo map before riding! In Vermont, you can start
off on a dead-flat ride (the Eastern part of Rte
30) and be on a 22% grade before you know it if you take a 'wrong turn'.

Two specific rides you might enjoy:

Fist, the "Tour of the Valley's" route, named after a race that used to take place in this area.
Distance, 63 miles:

Start at the 'West Hill Shop' (just off the exit ramp of exit 4, Interstate 91). South on 5 to
Brattleboro West on 30 to Townshend North on 35 to Grafton East to Saxton's River South on 'Back
Westminster Rd' to 'Kurn Hattin Rd' To 'Westestminster West Rd' back to the starting point.

A ride on the Western part of the state: (I don't know all the exact turns on this one, but if you
look on a map you should be able to follow along) Start in Dorset, VT on Rte 30 North to Danby
Mountain Rd Through 'Danby Four Corners' and continue to Rte. 140 West 140 West to Poultney 30 South
to the start

This loop is also about 60miles +/- and goes through some great scenery and nice villages.
