  1. Ok...all I need is to go pickup my bb and a chain and then I can get my bike on the road. I was hoping someone could just verify that I'm going to pick up the right chain for my setup.

    Here's what I'm goin' with:

    Truvativ Elita Triple crank
    Ultegra Triple Front Derailluer
    Ultegra Triple Rear Derailluer
    Shimano (older) 7 cog cassette

Now...I think I need a 9 speed chain, right? Are there things like chain thickness I need to consider?

And if I remember correctly the Ultegra rear derailluer is indexed for 9 cogs...am I going to have any issues using it with my cassette?

    Thanks.

Ultegra rear derailleurs aren't indexed, the indexing is in the shifter, so if you have a 7-speed shifter it will work fine.
As for the chain a 9-speed isn't needed for a 7-speed cassette, an 8-speed would probably work better.

Assuming he has a shimano sompatible shifter.

Yeah, they're Shimano 600 downtube shifters
