The new Trek under Daniel McConnell, who rode to third in the Sea Otter short track, uses a Boost 148 rear thru-axle with a Bontrager logo on the quick-release handle. The wider hub should have allowed engineers to build a more robust coupler system than what's on the Boone cyclocross bike or the Domane road bike. There is some kind of rivet or port on the underside of McConnell's down tube. There is a mount for a front derailleur, but the Trek Factory riders are using Shimano's XTR Di2 1x system. With Batty's considerably smaller frame size, the top tube's intersection with the seat tube is at a dramatically different angle than on McConnell's frame, which could have presented a challenge to design engineers, but we suspect they would cite the wider Boost 148 hub as part of the remedy.
