  1. Hi, Does anyone know if State College, PA is a very vegan
friendly town? I'm going Penn State to start my Ph.D. in
geology this fall, and would like to know what I can expect.
It is a pretty big school, in a relatively small town, so
I'd imagine there should be some places to eat, and some organic/co-
op type stores there. Thanks! Heath

If there are Krogers there, then go in and see if you can
find the "Nature's Market" or whatever they call it over
there. They have a health food section with various
vegetarian type stuff in it. I found a vegan chili mix
that I got, tried, and liked, and I also saw Ener-G egg
replacer and a selection of different nut butters. They
have Amy's Kitchen frozen dinners, etc. There was lots of
other stuff in that little section too, much of it vegan,
so you could check that out if they've also put that in
    the Krogers up there.

    I hope that helps.

I'm not sure about State College. I'm in Pittsburgh. While
I don't think that Western PA is exceptionally
vegetarian/vegan friendly, you can find a lot of options if
you're willing to dig a little. Things may tend to get a
bit more veg friendly the further east you go (i.e., closer
to Philadelphia). Philadelphia (Eastern PA) is much more
veg friendly, IMO. Since State College is east of
Pittsburgh, you might be okay. You may be able to get more
specific information from the State College branch of the
    Vegetarian Society:
