Quoted message said:Hi - I am new to this but need some advice. I have deep rims and need
valve extensions to fit tubs - I have screw in extensions but my tub
valves don't unscrew. Are these tubs no good for these rims or is it
possible (and if so where in UK) to get a different type of valve
extension for these valves?
Does this make sense?
many thanks
Dear LA,
If I follow your description, you have presta valve stems whose main
body is smooth and unthreaded, like a Michelin Aircomp inner tube.
But there should be a little threading on the narrower part of the
valve at the very top for a plastic valve cap--probably just 2 or 3
threads.
Those are the threads that a valve extender uses.
It's a good idea to wrap a couple of turns of teflon plumber's thread
seal tape around them to get a good seal. And check that you really
can pump through the valve on your particular rim before you actually
mount the tire on the rim.
A local bike shop should have them.
Or google for "presta valve extenders uk" and look at thousands of
links.
This site has extenders with o-rings for a better seal:
