I recently mounted XT v-brakes to a Specialized
Hardrock frame.
The arms of the brakes will not sit flush to the frame
because the mounting "boss" attached to the frame is wider
at the base.

the original brakes that came with the bike had a wider
bottom cutout that fit perfectly over this "flange"

My question is... is it safe to ride with these brakes
attached as shown in the first image? there is about 3/8 of
an inch of space between the top of the boss and the top of
the brake arm. They are tightened to the point that there is
no movement except for the parallel linkage. The stopper pin
is set firmly in the middle spring hole.
The bosses don't seem to be welded in place (although the
LBS swears they are) should I replace the bosses or just
ride it like I stole it?
