Quentin was up this week while I was on nights and was saying
something vague about planetary nebula. Then he spent the entire time
looking at the LMC, so now I know why 🙂 I wonder if my influence in
keeping clouds away, and skilled opening and closing of dome shutters
will help him get another article in the Age? 🙂

No[1]. In fact, I'm trying hard to work out how it is important at
all - a lot of astronomy is like that.

[1] I am reminded of a colleague who did a radio interview one day on
a new piece of instrument that did Shiny New Things. And the radio
presenter kept asking "but how much further will it see". "Um, no
further, just with a different wavelength range". "But how far back
towards the big bang will it see?" "argh!"
