My opinion is the IRC Serac is the best all around tire...for XC usage. If you're swinging more than
5 inches (I'm doing this on purpose now, Sorni) the Serac probably isn't the tire for you.

If you're on a short-travel bike you're probably on the right kind of terrain for the Serac to
excel, be it hard or sloppy. Honestly, except in snow, they're all I use - UST or not. I do swear by
UST, though, for all riders.

No one tire is a true all-arounder, just no one bike can do it all well. Next time, give us some
clue what/where you're riding and you can get better help.

Doh! This is for a XC hardtail bike. The terrain is mostly wet/and or dry hardpack with 'some'
roots, and the occasional slop thrown in. This is Louisiana after all.

The Seracs are next on my list to try. I liked the Hutchinson Python UST's -- no pinch flats; only
lost air when I got some crud wedged between bead and rim (and even then never went flat).

Took 'em off to try Geax Sedonas (tubed); not terribly impressed (front slips too easily when
off-camber). Got multiple flats first ride, too (since corrected).

I'll second the Serac for an excellent XC tire. The pinch flat resistant casing of the redwall
(Japanese) Seracs give the tubed version the same advantage of running low air pressure as the UST
which gives excellent traction.
