The memory map website has links to american topo maps. Don't know what
    they're like mind.

    http://www.memory-map.com/

Is the american site, with 1:25k maps that you can use on your own Memory
Map. The site doesn't make itself very clear, and i think you need to order
    the maps from the states.

National Geographic Topo is what I have
sold state by state, I have Washington
doesnt look anywhere near the quality of OS/Mem Map
have not used it in anger yet
but it is a lot cheaper <$100-00 for a whole state @1:25k

The 3D data is a pay for extra ($20-00)
I had to take mine back to the store as the box was empty but for some
reason (maybe post-christmas sale offer) I then got the 3D data as a
mailed to me extra. I havent even looked at that as it is still
waiting for me in the US

I got it at REI in Seattle, I am sure internet will sell it for less
    Amazon US: $ $89.99

  4. also check the link for "USGS Topographical Overlays" on
    http://www.gearthblog.com/

might help you out for free while you decide what to buy

Its a google earth file that loads maps for US when you movve location
