I was looking for some help on upgrading my BB & cranks on my bike. I have a Trek 4300 Alpha that right now has the orignal SR Suntour junkers on it. I was planning to replace them with the Race Face Evolve DH (single ring 38t) set from Jenson. The set comes with as far as I know the Race Face Xtype BB. My concern is will it fit. I've never changed out a BB on a moutain bike so I have no idea how things are measured & such. Thanks in advance for any help..

for fitting instructions. you will need to know if your BB shell is 68 or 73 mm for ordering (that is the bit on your frame the BB screws into), you will also need to buy the BB tool.
I am very interested in why you want to fit a full on DH/FR crank, to an entry level XC hardtail (don't get me wrong the 4300 is sound for the price and does what it says on the box), also when you have thrown in the BB price/ and the tool this is an upgrade that will cost almost half the value of your bike and lose you 18 gears. These cranks will take a battering that the rest of your bike won't 😕 Whats ur plan??

Thanks for your reply, it is a 73mm at least thats what my local BS told me. I know the set is probley overkill for my current frame but my BB is shot to hell as is my ring grear, so I might as well replace it all. I was going to the single because I never leave my center ring wile I'm riding, dosent matter where or what I'm doing I always use the rear grears only. The Race face was one of the less expensive sets I could find that I like. I plan to upgrade the frame within the year as well so I might as well get good parts now. Becides I've already exceded the cost of the bike in parts, Last year I put a set of Mavic Crossmax wheels, Hutchinson Python tubless light tires, & a Manitou Black Elite fork on it.
Ordered them just a bit ago. I agree it is spending to much for this bike, but I'm already past the point of no return. I just keep thinking when I switch frames I'll have the parts already. The frame so far has held up to the thrashing I put it through. Most of the time all it gets used for is rideing the streets, but I do go on the trails quite a bit. I've never yet taken any serious drops at best I've done a few ten footers & stayed intact, & I weigh 180 so to most of the bikers I see I'm not a light weight.
