Upgrading Trek 3700

Are you implying that your current bike does not have a front fork with disc mounts? Does the rear have mounts? You will also need disc hubs/wheels. It can add up to be an expensive upgrade on an inexpensive bike. Are you sure you need disc brakes?

Disc brakes are usually more of a want than a need. IMO, only people needing them would be riding in very muddy conditions often or downhill. Yes, it can be expensive depending on where you go and how far you wanna go with it. I scored a set of vuelta aerolite disc rims brand new for 99.00 shipped for a ss offroad bike I just built up from a spare frame hanging around. Mechanical disc calipers/rotor sets can be had at reasonable prices if you search them out on ebay or online parts places. Existing levers can be used if in decent shape. Of course, wrenching on it yourself will save quite a bit on the cost. It can be done for 150.00 or 500.00 depending on the way you go. Chris King hubs mated to upper line rims with some nice hydraulic discs are gonna cost ya. Cable housing and cables will be needed as well if swapping. Another thing to keep in mind is that just because they're on this bike doesn't mean that the whole mess can't be swapped over to new frameset later on if you upgrade that. It's all possible, just depends on what ya want and what you need out of it. The fork is once again, want you intend to do with it. You can go from 120.00 - 800.00. If you are intending on upgrading this much of the bike tho, I'd have to suggest some shopping around online and at some shops and get a whole bike with fork/discs already on it. It will be cheaper to buy a whole other bike than to upgrade a whole bike with new stuff.....most of the time, it depends on the frameset & if it's worth it to you for whatever reason to respec it up. Here's my frugal example of decent parts on a budget build for ya.....ProMax levers/calipers/rotors brand new in box 50.00 shipped off ebay & Vuelta aerolite wheelset 99.00 shipped off ebay & viola! offroad single speed adult BMX.....solid and fun as hell without one Shimano part on it (not that I have anything against Shimano at all)
