I'm trying to get an idea of how fast Masters 45+ racing is in NorCal. I've done enough bike racing over the years to know that if you can't hang w/the pack it's pretty much a waste of time. How fast do you have to ride to hang w/the old guys? Typical times for a solo ride on various classic SF Bay area rides would be greatly appreciated. Bears loop, Alpine/PV/Sandhill, Old La Honda. My guess is that I need to be able to do the Bears loop under a hour or the Alpine/PV/Sandhill loop in under 30 mins.
If I can't hang with the noon ride should I just not bother...

I think you may be approaching this all wrong. No one named Booker C. Bense is likely to hang in any race, much less at the stratospheric level of NorCal masters racing. I suggest a name change as the first step. Something like Dirk or Ivan perhaps? Plain old Larry seems to work ok too. Good luck with that.

Dumbass -
If you acquire Masters Fattie Self Importance Syndrome, going from Fred to Masters Fattie will be a downgrade.

The open 45+ races can be pretty fast. We are starting to see mroe 45+ 4/5 races in Nor Cal and those are slower than the open races. Most Nor Cal races have the option of doing 35+ 4/5 races which in mot cases will be slower than the 45+ open races.
At the Fremont Crit though the 45/55+ open race was one of the slower ones on the day with even the Cat 5s, and the 35+ 4/5 races having many laps faster than the fastest 45/55+ lap.
