Upgrade wired to wireless?

I'm seeing that some people are begining to put their orders in for the wireless PowerTap and was wondering if they will offer something to "upgrade" a wired unit to wireless. I'm speculating on this in that I was told that the hub is exactly the same and assuming that there is an external unit that is transmitting to the computer some how.

Is this how it actually works?

There's nothing to "upgrade" because these are completely independent products. The hubs may look the same but the electronics are completely different. The computers may also look the same, but they are also completely different inside. I think those who "upgrade" are actually buying a SL2.4 model and selling their SL model on eBay or such. I have a standing request to buy my SL so when I get the SL2.4 I'll make a friend very happy.

So the hub will be able to transmit directly to the computer? That would be pretty impressive to have a unit be able to transmit that distance and still be located within the hub assembly. I might have to take that same "upgrade" path soon!

Thanks for the info!

Yes. The SL2.4 uses a 2.4GHz transmitter. And the cadence pickup is also wireless (2.4GHz). So, the entire kit is wireless. The HR receiver is also completely different and coded, so the HR receiver problems which have been common among prior models should be history.

I've been loving my wireless pt-especially with my zipp wheel as I swap the wheel to my TT bike and never have to be without power--but I have had several rides where my HR wasn't recording
