I have acquired a second-hand Ridgeback Rapide Nova Hybrid (2004 model I believe) which has a 7-speed rear cassette but only a single gear chainset on the crank.
The gearset and change mechanism is all Shimono with a SIS Tourney Megarange rear deraileur and Shimono shifter.
I would like to add a 2 or 3 ring chainset to widen the range of gears available - is this feasable (I presume the same frame is used for a range of bikes) and will any 3-gear chainset work or do I have to get Shimono compatible.
Do I need any special tools or make any mods to make the changeover?
