I took my Saturn into a transmission shop yesterday and was
poking around the stuff they have laying around. The gears
inside an automobile transmisssion may be useful to make a
uni gear out of. I was thinking that a smaller vehicle, like
a motorcycle or moped transmission may be smaller and
lighter. Has anyone looked into this. It may be less
expensive than a custom designed gear.

Still working on idling on my 20". My record so far is 12

The gears in the prototype uni.5 hub are stock automotive
gears from QTC (quality transmission components) and they
are the smallest ones available. The gears in Frank Bonsch's
1.57 ratio hub are from a Shimano multigeared bicycle hub.
