  3. Just so you all know, Jess did not have a hard time thinking up the
subject matter of his film. I think it's an everyday conflict for him.
There have been many rides or other get-togethers he hasn't been able to
make because of school. His head is in the right place!

I thought the film was very fun but a little slow. Don't know if you
were looking for constructive, Jess, but I think you can shorten up many
of the shots if you want, and people will be more riveted. Also it
seemed to be missing something at the end. You put all your stuff in a
blender and pureed it, but then what. You wake up? How about you drink
it and wake up? Or just drink it. A little bit of Fear Factor for the
    unicyclists!

  4. Yeah i didn't really get the ending either. Why'd the uni have to go in?
You should have made him study on his unicycle. But you're the
mastermind. I really liked the piano.

    David

Ps. When I first saw it, I thought he was going to shove his head in the
blender. I'm glad that didn't happen.

  7. Jess is pursuing a possible career in multimedia creation. Maybe not
Flash or video, but something arts-oriented. Both his parents are
artists as well. This puts him in a category where he is probably
willing and able to handle a little discussion about the piece without
falling apart. As with all discussions of this type, he can take our
comments or leave them. No matter what we say it's still his art.

I hope I didn't make a wrong impression. I thought it was the coolest
piece of unicycling-oriented Flash I've seen. Rather than the usual
video clips, this is straight out of Jess' mind. More creative and
    thought-provoking!

Thanks for that clarification, John. I agree with you that it was
really cool. I think the pacing was fine, but it definitely was slower
than, say, U2. But if you do take it at its pace, the timing is really
    well done.

When I read War and Peace, I had to learn to slow down, because Tolstoy
would go off on tangents of description of things such as the
surrounding countryside. I realized that I was missing a lot, zooming
along at my usual pace, often unconsciously skipping these descriptions.
So I had to learn from him to slow down. It enhanced the book greatly
    and has helped ever since.

Thanks for the suggestion, but when I tried it, the progress bar went
further (quickly) but other than that there was no effect.

Huh, I didn't sit still for 3 hours, watching that non-progress.

The failure may have been due to the firewall where I tried to see it.
How large is it? Is it doable over dial-up, like max 5 MB or so?

The flash part is 758 KB.

Try using 'WinHTTrack' (http://www.httrack.com/) to download the
animation. WinHTTrack will copy the entire web page to your computer.
That way you'll be able to watch the animation again later without
needing to download it all again. HTTrack is quite handy for copying
web pages and keeping them for safe keeping. It's also quite handy for
downloading all of the photos in a photo album in one swoop.

  13. I totally agree about the ending. I actually didn't "finish" the
animation. I just wanted to be done with it, so I kind of stopped.

The funny thing is that John's suggestion "...then he pours and drinks
the mix," is actually exactly what I had planned. The fact that John
suggested it just reinforces that it should be there to complete the
animation. Perhaps I'll add this part in soon.

As for long, extended shots, I can see that too. I'm totally open to
criticism, so don't feel bad to say something.

Someone asked why the uni had to go in. I was trying to show that I had
to somehow make the unicycle and the schoolwork/SATs work together. The
only way was to force them together and hit "puree." I think the
drinking of the mix will make it make a little more sense.

Fantastic! I loved it, and had the same feeling that the ending hadn't
quite arrived. I wanted to see how he would blend study and unis in his
life. Maybe he could blend it, then drink it while studying and riding?
Or ride to the library? Or study unicycles? Or something, you know,
like that but not quite so lame...

The Muni is from a clip of me riding Muni.

The trials is from an animated gif thingy that I had in my "unicycle
