While I see the style you're going for, a bit more use of the Pen tool
will help you improve your linework.

I meyself either do blatantly cartoony or semi-realistic vectors. The
more layers of color the better, here is one I did of a phone a while
back, it took me an hour or two and I was happy with how it came out.

An easy way to get started is open an image, posterize it until the
colors are correct but still clearly separated, then use the pen to
from around the defined edges. Also using shading, gradients, and lines
help, rather than plain colors.

At that link, on KrisHolm.com, it talks about Ryan being sponsered by
KH, and it has prerelease photo's of Defect.

The drop that the picture shows isn't in Defect. It only shows him
still-standing on the octopus.

Hey, I just got some new programs to play with. I have Adobe Illustrator
CS and Adobe Photoshop CS. I have been using basically only Illustrator
to make stuff because I don't know how to use photoshop.

I did both of these (one last night and one right now). I am still
figuring it out.
These were for practice, any tips are welcome🙂

The axle did get messed up, I origionally did it and I realized the
bolt and the hub didn't line up so I actually moved the hub down to be
closer to the bolt without it looking too bad, I said I am still kinda
figuring it out😉

His finger does look strange but thats what it looks like in the
'origional pic' (http://www.unicyclist.com/gallery/?g2_itemId=221532)
too, its just a weird angle.

I did it all in Illustrator CS with the pen too. Its basically drawing
over the picture, each part is an enclosed shape that I had to do by
hand (without a mouse too, I am using that touch thing that are on
laptops).

Hey, I downloaded paint.net and I can't really do much in it. People
have said that it has photo shop capabilitys, but I can't find them.

if you're looking for a free alternative to photoshop (and are too
law-abiding to dl it via limewire/warez/torrent) you might want to try
'the Gimp' (http://www.gimp.org/).

it is a bit more difficult to use than photoshop, but it has some
really neat filters/scripts.
