So I have a ten-mile ride to work, and I currently have a super-heavy 90's-era hybrid. It was free, and is fine, but I'm looking to get into something lighter and sleeker. My needs, though, are: I want to be able to hook a basket to it. I want chucky-'ish tires that can handle pot-holes and dropping off curbs, a cushy seat, and I don't want to be fully hunched-over the whole time. Does anyone have any tips/advice on what sort of bike would work for me?

Any hybrid with a suspension fork that fits you properly should work. Most of them have provisions for attaching racks and baskets.
