I was thinking about something on my ride today. Since a new Dura-Ace was released this year, when will the new ultegra be released? And also, can someone explain to me how shimano's numbering system works i.e (7600, 9000, 6700, 7800)?
It used to be that Dura Ace model numbers began with 7 and the higher numbers were more recent Dura Ace (7700, 7800, 7900). Ultegra model number begins w/ 6 and proceeds the same way. 105's first digit is 5 and is likewise similar in progression. I dunno what the next mechanical Ultegra will be.....maybe 6800 or a leap to 8000....... If Shimano follows past procedure, you might see a new Ultegra this time next year. Note that Ultegra 6700 is a fine group, right now, with nothing at all wrong with it. With that said, Dura Ace 9000 is supposed to perform like a stunner, and if a new Ultegra follows in 9000's mechanical footsteps, it could be the deal of a Shimano century.
