Thanks to all those that replied to my previous post re punture resistant tyres. I had a quick web trawl and came to the following conclusions:
DH tyres & tubes, great idea and also suggested by my 13 yo son. I am just not sure that I want to sound like an army Land Rover however! (and how did you know I have legs the size of tree trucks? for the wrong reasons lol)
Schwalbe Marathon Plus seems to be the no. 1 choice but I am concerned about how they would handle off road. The Specialized Armadillo Hemispheres seem to be more off road biased at the expense of puncture protection. Is this true?
I then came across the Schwalbe Marathon Cross tyre, has anyone any experiences of this tyre? Once I have decided on the tyre where is the best place to get them from?

These are great except on slippery mud when they are little better than any general purpose tyre.Very tough on tour, can be pumped up hard for long road trips, let down for rough bits, then reinflated.Very few punctures , but the marathon plus and copycats is the new thing and will grip as well probably.I have done 80to 100miles per day on both types. Well, they're basically fat slicks - so absolutely fine on anything except thick greasy mud. Very good grip on tarmac though, especially in the wet.

Unless you are having to tackle heaps of broken glass then the Marathons will be very reliable, The 'Plus' bit is nice but unnecssary for all but the most extreme situations. I've done 1000s of urban and extra-urban miles on marathons and M. Plus's and neither have punctured. Go figure. I would expect marathon crosses to be similar in the puncture department, but on road once you lean enough to come up onto the knobbles you'll obviously loose a lot of grip. Ordinary marathons have a fair tread on them, more than the plus's. You might have a look at them.
Fisher outdoor leisure are v good for schwalbe tyres.
