Possibly because of rules on the size of logos or how many times logos
can be displayed.

The tape was to hold his radio in place. It came loose and he had to
tare it out half way through the TT.

Not for the strips of black electrical tape stuck to the outside of the
helmet, covering the Bell logos on the side.
