There's only one way to handle bad news.
That's to step up front, admit it and carry on soldiering.
You might have to duck the excretia that's pitched in your direction for
a while, but it effectively kills the Bonanza harvested by the
MuckRaking periodistas and they depart in search of other Comfortable
Ones to Afflict or Afflicted Ones to Comfort. Same odds either way; they
both get you a by-line plus a few column inches on Page 1 or Page 2 of
whatever Gloom and Doom Purveyor you happen to be working for.
Just ask Tricky Dickie and Spiggy the Piggy who didn't.
Or Spotted [censored] and (after some hesitation) Davey Millar who did.
Both have found that the Tifosi really don't give a hoot whether they
Performance Enhanced or not.
It's only the Miscreants that persist in proclaiming their innocence in
the face of all the evidence that give the Ravenous MuckRakers the
stories they crave.
Tyler should have known this.
And parenthetically I have to wonder Hamilton didn't step out front
when his UCI tests were so far out of line for such a long period before
the positive WADA findings.
I was talking to my personal Quack a couple of days ago and asked her
opinion of the readings and she opined that there was only one way that
the readings could be so far from the norm and that the red flag was up
way back when. It seems ridiculous the Hamilton would have waited until
the Off Season to attempt to discover the reasons therefore as he said
was his intent before the Pound Police pre-empted him.
In a way I personally always did have the opinion that he was
guilty. More especially since his results showed a marked improvement
when he jumped into bed with Kim Andersen and Bjarne Riis, both of whom
are well versed in the Apothecary's Arts.
In a way I really hope he's guilty because it would be a bitter memory
to carry through the rest of his life if he truly is innocent.
