The night before the event was an awesome display by the gods. Almost continuous lightning all night, like an arc welder going outside my window. A few close ones rattled the walls but the rain was generally light until about 1 am when it opened up a bit. Lightning was still going at dawn but the rain stopped right on cue which a good excuse for the wind to start. Almost dead on the start (delayed) a ray of sunshine beamed down and lit the place up, we all took it as a divine sign. Four turboprop aircraft flew past in formation a few times and then they were off! The team of Ky, Henk and John caused a lot of excitement and interest. Henk could barely walk when he got off the bike and was followed by a small mob to the transition tent. The weather went from windy and grey to hot, calm and humid. Sunburn was the order of the day. Spectators and supporters sat under trees, areas exposed to the microwave sun were bare. The setting sun was a relief, but most were finishing by this time anyway. Another great day.
Thanks for the pics Marty. I was there spectating most of day and, yes, I'm one of those that got sunburnt! Great event, gutsy performances, and a graphic reminder of why I won't be tempted to do an Ironman event!!
