Quoted message said:Went out on my regular run yesterday and twisted my ankle along the
way. I was running on a path and didn't see something that made it
happen. I hopped around a bit and had to stop and walk a little. Then I
was able to go back to running the rest of the way (around 1.5 - 2
miles), although at a slower pace.
I checked out the ankle last night & this morning and there's no
inflamation or anything like that. It's a bit sore this morning, but
only when twisting it a lot - not when I put pressure on it.
Question is - should I go on my regualarly scheduled run tomorrow or
should I wait another day or two until it's not sore at all?
In my experience with many turned ankles, some very serious, I would
say do not run on it until it's fully healed. For one thing, it's much more
easily injured again, and the second time might be serious. Also, if
you run on it, you will lengthen the healing time substantially, and you
might even cause the pain to become chronic.
The proper procedure, at least from my experience from doctors, is
to immobilize the ankle and let it heal. Then do strengthening exericises
for a time, like storks. Then off you go.
That being said, the ankle is incredibly tough. Also, it's difficult giving
up
good running time. But there are risks.
