I was thinking of hiring one, but didn't get my [censored] into gear. So I
turned up at the start, despite drinking the night before, hoping to
see everyone off. And they had 30 bikes sitting down under the
building, waiting to go, with no-one to ride them.

They days earlier (hey, could have been you, given your yellow
shirt-wearing habits) told me the free hire bikes would only be going
to speakers, but I guess they got more bikes, or less interested
speakers. So I rode one. As did everyone else we managed to call on
our mobiles at the last minute 🙂

Oh, and someone local had a tri-recumbent with a GPS system on it. We
all took turns spinning it around the (wentworth?) bar -- my first and
only 'bent ride.

menu thing to lanch apps, one shade of grey, simple vertical title bars
and thats it!

I was wonmdering why emacs was taking 250 megs of ram the other day on
my work computer, and then found out that I had about 500 buffers
open. I hadn't restarted xemacs in several months, and I always save
my sessions anyway. So every file I opened would never end up closed,
and would simply end up being loaded next time I started emacs.

I finally killed emacs today when it didn't like me giving it a
SIGSTOP.

That little lightning storm was nifty, wasn't it? Only made it home
with a few minutes to spare 🙂 The cat's currently looking out the
window at the pretty flashes of light.

once a much more pleasant experience.

Ubuntu's the distro I'm using at the moment on a PII400 with 128M of
RAM. The difference swapping out Gnome for XFCE4 made to the usability
of this machine was significant.

Umm, ever done a "ps axf" when gnome is running? Piles of processes that
server no earthly purpose. It was fun to "kill -9 some.pid" and see what
happened; i.e. nothing. there is so much [censored] that you can not turn off,
that it is kill gnome and others.

it brought gnome bloat as a major problem, hence I am now going back to
the old *wm's. Performance is all I need.

screen is installed right after rsync, iproute2, mtr, netcat, mc, mutt
and irssi.

have had same, but need to use OO.o, thunderbird and firefox all at the
some time... this is why i moved to flwm.

seamlessly switch from tyoping on the laptop to the workstation looked
at it in awe, and then promptly went away and installed it on their
own. Seems I introduced a whole bunch of people to x11vnc too 🙂

Really sucks when the notwork not works. You lose all input until the
