that depends. I know a real stud and at times he has ridden a single speed tt bike. but for us mortals, gearing similar to a regular road bike is the norm. mine is set up 55/39, but I've seen 56/39, 56/42, 54/39, 53/39, etc. with all types of cassettes on the rear. you get the picture.

Can be , depends , - In England there are some clubs that are devoted to this type of sport with fixed wheel bikes ( like the track ) , and not just in flat parts of the country .

I use a full range ov gears depending on the course!
If its a mountain TT then would use 39/55 and summat like 11/23, Fer a flat event then 53/55 and 11/19
For hillclimbs then fixed wheel is defo the way to go, And for the 2004 season I hope to have a fixed TT bike too..........
