Trouble replacing Hayes pads

  1. Has anyone had problems replacing Hayes disc pads?

    The rear pads are so tight the wheel binds.
    The adjuster is backed right off at the lever but the pistons seem to
    keep closing the gap after pushing them all the way back into their
    housings.

    You probably need to push the caliper pistons back to their retracted
    position, be careful not to damage the piston. Their instructions tell
    how to do this with an open end wrench.

    You probably need to push the caliper pistons back to their retracted
    position, be careful not to damage the piston. Their instructions tell
    how to do this with an open end wrench.


    Back the levers right out and maybe you'll have to either open the master
    cylinder or let a couple of drops of fluid out through the bleed nipple to
    release the pressure that is probably closing the pistons again. Dont apply
    any pressure to the pad spring location pins in the centre of the cylinders,
    they bend fairly easily.

    Thanks for that, I think your right about the fluid level coz I've
    pushed the pistons back with a wrench but they start to seep back again
    :-(

    Just got back from a ride and they have freed off a little :-)
