That ridiculous thin topheavy Piaggo Vespa comes to mind. But it is a lesson about safety in todays transportation environment! Especially for the lazy who can not pedal.
Cars can say a lot about the preferences and priorities of their owners, projecting an image of wealth, virility or playfulness - or in the case of those driving three-wheel vehicles, eccentricity.
In a world where necessities like briefcases and wristwatches are designed to broadcast one's social standing, driving a three-wheeler is a snub to the establishment. Indeed, owners love them not just because they are durable, fuel-efficient (if necessary) and easy to maintain, but also because they are singular and eye-catching. Even some of their names - the Scootacar, the Frisky Family Three and the Sparrow - seem to mock convention.
Human powered trikes are leaps and bounds ahead of the dependency image in my opinion. Dare I say . . . recumbent???
