I have a Mavic X317 Disc rim on my Windcheetah. I'd've thought that as long
as you use a good quality rim and build the wheel well, side loading is
occasional enough per mile travelled that it won't cause any major problems.
I realise mine is symmetrically built and consequently perhaps a little
stronger, but it is also offset so it experiences cantilevered loading all
the time. For the record, I've been using a 1.25" tyre the whole time.
Certainly my spoke key hasn't touched the wheel since I built it nearly
three years ago, so something in the equation must be working ok.
