  1. hello.

what would be the decent triathlon watch for a beginner?
i did two triathlon sprints so far, and my record is 1:16...๐Ÿ˜‰

Well, realistically, you don't need one at all. So the question to ask
is "What do I want to use it for?"

You probably want a stopwatch. How many split times could you
realistically need? For a tri, probably not more than 5 unless you want
to keep track of intermediate times during each event. OTOH, if you
anticipate doing long track workouts, you might want to do 50 or 100.

An interval timer can be nice, too. You can use it to remind you when to
eat on the bike and run, or in place of a pace clock on swim workouts.

Alarms are nice for when you're on the road and need to wake up for an
    early race.

Personally, I use a Timex Ironman 100-lap version, which I got at
Wal-Mart for about $40. There are people on this forum who will killfile
    me for admitting that.

You may also want to look into whether you can get a heart-rate montior
with all of the watch features you want.

I use the 30 lap model - because it's all they had the day my old one
    died. <g>

If I figure correctly, 30 laps is the most you'd need for doing an IM.
Swim, T1, Bike, T2, then every mile split.

(Actually, an hourglass would be sufficient for my run splits, but I
    digress...)

the Timex line of IM watches have done me well. My cirrent one has an
interval timer and alarm for training, and a dial that auto-lights up
when the alarms beeps for my night runs. Worls well for me all the time,
and has three alarms so I'm SURE to get up

I used to use a sundial for my swim splits but I've been doing a bit of work
    in the pool of late......

    Cheers,
