  1. Hi there - does anyone here have a Trek 7100? Thinking of buying one but not
sure which variant to go for (think there are several, slightly different
bikes, in the range) - any views on this bike?

I will use it heavily, for commuting and at the weekends...

    Thanks in advance
    Jason

  2. I've had a 7200 for a couple years and enjoy it. I don't remember the
specifics on the different components between the 7100 and the 7200,
but I obviously thought it was worth the upgrade.

The front shock is heavy and not really needed if you're going to be
riding on pavement. I use my bike mostly on dirt roads so the shock
has been useful. The suspension seatpost has always been a bit
problematic and I'm having it replaced with a rigid one.

It is a comfortable bike that has some legs to it. I've used mine for
regular rides as well as loaded touring and plan to take it on a cross
    country trip starting next month.

  3. I bought a Trek 7100 last year. I rode it for a little over a thousand
miles. It is a nice bike
even though I had to replace the wheels, because they weren't strong enough
    for my weight
I did sell it and bought a Raliegh C40 instead. There are a bunch of small
    differences between
the two bikes. The two bikes are comparable in price with the Raliegh
    listing a bit higher than
the Trek. But where I bought mine it was $60.00 cheaper than the Trek.

  4. My GF just bought one a week or so ago. She hadnt ridden a bike since
college (10+ years ago). I put a computer on it and she has been
riding 10-12 miles per day. She tried a specialized hybrid but did not
like it. The 7100 put a smile on her face during the first ride. She
has enjoyed it and finds it comfortable. Yes its not high end but to
get into cycling for exercise and fun I'd recommend it it if you feel
good on it. Maybe next year she'll want a road bike 🙂
