i haven't had a bike since i was a kid and am looking to buy one, mainly for commute and leisurely rides around the park. i test rode both bikes and they seem OK. the trek 7000 was 339 and the sporterra 359.
any suggestions?

Trek, any day over the Schwinn. Trek is built so much better. I always had Treks in the past, I just recently bought a Jamis hybrid, and it is a great bike, when I buy a road bike I will go Trek. The 7000 looks pretty good for what you want. Are you staying with $359, the 7100 adds front suspension and better parts for $80. Or, you could go with. Trek Bikes | Bikes | Bike Path | 7.1 FX But if you are going in the $300 range the 7000 is your best bet. Maybe you could locate one of these. 2010 JAMIS BICYCLES - CITIZEN 1 hope this helps.
