Trek 4300

No seriously though, I'm quite a fan of the Trek 4*00 line. What you've actually got is a pretty nice hardtail frame which is highly upgradable. I think I'm right in saying that the Alpha SL frames used to be on the Trek 6*00 line. The Bontrager finishing kit is for the most part quite acceptable. That said be careful not to overtighten the bolt on the saddle clamp as that appears to be a weak point. On a more personal level, I hate the Bontrager saddle with a passion (though obviously this is an individual thing).

My suggestion would be to just ride it for a bit and upgrade stuff as parts wear out / break. Okay, sure it would be nice to replace all the Alivio stuff with Deore but you may as well get your moneys worth out of it first. Similarly, depending on the riding you do, you might want to put a better fork on it at some point. However, this is an expensive upgrade (relative to the original cost of the bike) and probably best left a while (if you do it at all). I think the pedals on the 4300 are plastic/nylon so I guess you might buy some better some better ones at some stage.

I'm sure you'll come to realise what you do and don't like in time. Spend your energy(and money) keeping it clean and well maintained and it will last you a long time.

But more to the point, what do you think of it so far?

Thank you for your honesty. Well I got the bike as a surprise from some friends. My old bike that I have had for the past 10 years finnally just kicked the bucket last year. (Plus I never grew into the frame) A few of my close friends new how much I missed riding and surprised me with the bike as a gift.

I have used the bike a lot so far. (I am actually leaving to go biking if 30 mins. or so) I like it. The shifters are a little slow sometimes but thats not the end of the world. However I sometime go off the trail and on the street between or on the way to a trail and it would be nice to be able to turn off the suspention. Have a great day.
