Aluminium is no problem although some sprayers are wary of bonded frames
because of the stoving process.

When the paint was fresh, the decals were applied and then
the clear was shot over them.

So if you can peel them up, fine. You may need to finish
that job with some 400 paper. Use a circular motion and keep
the work area wet ( I use sponge and warm water) as you sand
through the decal. Take care not to remove the color coat
below them.

Then smooth in the edges with wet 600 paper where the clear
ends and shoot clear across the bare area to restore a
uniform gloss.

Alternately, messengers use black duct tape over decals.
That works, too.
